Why I do this work

Hi, I’m Idaly Terrazas, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate. I was drawn to this work because I’ve seen how deeply our experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, navigate life, and connect with others. I believe that everyone deserves a safe space to explore their story and begin healing the parts of themselves that have been pushed away.

Our stories shape us, but they do not have to define us. I help clients make sense of the ways their past experiences continue to influence how they see themselves and navigate life today, while creating space for healing, growth, and change.

My hope is to create a space where you can slow down, explore your story with curiosity, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. Therapy is not about becoming someone different, but about creating the space to become more fully yourself.

How I work

My work with individuals is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps us understand the different parts of ourselves that show up in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Rather than trying to get rid of the parts that bring discomfort, we get curious about what they’re trying to protect and what they need.

With couples, I draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to identify the patterns and cycles that fuel conflict and disconnection. Instead of asking who is to blame, we look at what’s happening beneath the surface and find new ways of communicating and connecting.

I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to notice thoughts and patterns that may be keeping you stuck and to explore new ways of responding.

I believe therapy should make room for the whole person. Your culture, values, spirituality, relationships, and upbringing all shape how you understand yourself and the world. I want to learn what matters to you and how your background has shaped your experiences, so we can build our work around you. Your beliefs and values are welcome here, and we can weave the parts of your identity that matter to you into our work together.

Across my work, I aim to offer a space grounded in curiosity, compassion, and honesty.
