Couples & relationship therapy

For partners who feel stuck in the same patterns and want to find a different way of connecting.

Who this is for

Maybe you’ve had the same argument so many times that you both know how it will end. One of you reaches for connection, the other pulls away, and somehow you both end up feeling hurt and misunderstood.

Maybe you’re not fighting anymore. There’s just a distance between you that you don’t know how to close. Or maybe your reactions feel bigger than the moment, as if something older is being touched.

Often it is. The wounds we carry from childhood and past relationships don’t stay in the past. They show up in how we reach for love, how we protect ourselves, and how we hear our partner. At the heart of it is a simple question: Are you there for me? Can I count on you? When that feels uncertain, we pursue, shut down, or pull away. These aren’t character flaws. They’re attachment responses, and they keep couples stuck in a cycle neither person chose.

The pattern is the problem, not you and not your partner.

Together, we’ll slow the cycle down, understand the old hurts and unmet needs underneath it, and build new ways of turning toward each other. The goal is a secure bond, where you both feel safe, connected, and understood.

What sessions are like

In our work together, we slow the argument down so you can hear what’s really being said beneath it. A partner’s criticism may carry a longing for closeness. Their silence may carry fear or hurt. Many of these reactions have deep roots in early family experiences or past relationships, and they surface when the person you love matters most.

My role is to create a space where both of you feel seen, heard, and understood. Together, we’ll explore the cycle you’ve been caught in and the emotions and needs that fuel it. With that understanding, you can begin to respond to each other with more openness and care.

My couples work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based approach grounded in attachment science. EFT helps partners build a more secure bond, one where it feels safe to be vulnerable, to ask for what you need, and to trust that your partner will be there.

Questions couples ask

What if my partner isn’t sure about therapy?

That’s okay. Both partners don’t have to feel completely ready before reaching out. We can start with individual therapy to give you space to talk through what’s happening, understand your own needs and patterns, and decide what you want to do from there.

If your partner becomes open to couples therapy later, we can talk about what that could look like. The free consultation is also a chance for either of you to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.

Can we join from two different locations?

Yes. You can each join from your own device, as long as you’re both physically located in Washington State during the session.

Does couples therapy work over video?

Yes. Online therapy can be an effective way to do meaningful couples work, and many couples appreciate being able to meet from a space where they feel comfortable. At the same time, telehealth isn’t the right fit for every couple. If I think in-person support would better meet your needs, I’m happy to help you find an in-person provider.

What if we’re not sure we want to stay together?

You don’t have to have that figured out before starting therapy. We can slow things down, understand the patterns between you, and make space for what each of you is feeling and needing. The goal isn’t to tell you whether to stay or leave, but to help you move forward with greater clarity and intention.
